Club Manager wanted

The Sydenham Community Curling Club is a classic 4-sheet club that operates a curling season from October to April and is looking to grow into a year round event venue. We are seeking a Manager of club operations during the curling season and also to support the growth of the Club..


Reporting to the Board of Directors through the Club President, the Club Manager is responsible for the efficient day to day operations of the facilities, event promotion and membership recruitment and retention. The primary responsibilities of the Club Manager during the curling season are managing club operations, event coordination, facility marketing and rentals and providing top-notch customer service to current and prospective members.


Throughout the entire year, the Club Manager will market and promote the Club, including seeking and maintaining sponsorships and generating revenue through identification and management of third-party rentals, events and use of club facilities.


The successful candidate must be a people-person who is responsive and membership- focused.  Using excellent interpersonal skills while working with members, guests, employees, volunteers and the public, the Club Manager is an energetic self-starter with strong organizational and time management skills. With minimal supervision in a member-driven organization, the Club Manager is creative and entrepreneurial in order to generate revenue and manage multiple concurrent demands. Strong social media and computer expertise and excellent communication (written and oral) skills are required


Work hours can be flexed to accommodate demand for services, however for contract compensation, the schedule is based on 25 hours weekly from October to April and 2 hours weekly for the balance of the year. Evening, weekend and holiday hours are required for board meetings, events and interaction with members.



  • Implements all Club/Board approved policies and agreements.

  • Monitors and ensures adherence to all and most up-to-date Covid-19 safety requirements

  • Oversees all club events and liaises regularly with Volunteer Conveners

  • Organizes and implements Club-hosted events

  • Assists with league and bonspiel logistics

  • Ensures bar is staffed, functional with appropriate inventory and cash is accurately managed and controlled when required for Club activities and rentals

  • Monitors kitchen to ensure adherence to contractual commitments and health and safety requirements

  • Handles external/non-member inquiries, including rental requests

  • Ensures the facility is clean and well presented;

  • Manages the maintenance of the facilities in collaboration with the Board of Director

  • Tracks daily financial revenue and expenses to reconcile with treasurer’s reports,

  • Ensures Hires  bar and support staff and rovides appropriate support and guidance to staff

  • Ensures the workplace is safe and compliant with all applicable employment standards

  • Prior to the beginning of the curling season, ensures that the club is ready to operate, using an administrative, operational and compliance checklist

  • Ensures all communications receive a response within 24 hours during the regular curling season and 48 hours during the off season

  • Ensures the Club’s social media presence is current  and effective

  • Supports the maintenance of the Club’s website, ensuring updated communications for members

  • Markets and promotes leagues, events and bonspiels

  • Identifies advertising and sponsorship opportunities

  • Promotes new memberships and the Club brand at every opportunity

  • Markets the lounge and ice shed for rentals twelve months of the year

  • Other duties as assigned




The ideal candidate will have:

  • Minimum of 5 years of pertinent experience and  knowledge of curling operations

  • College, University degree is helpful

  • Computer software proficiency including social media and promotional platforms and websites.

  • Bar service, Smart serve certified (or ability to obtain), Food Handlers Certificate (or ability to obtain)

  • Valid G license

  • Use of personal vehicle

  • Vulnerable Sector Check is mandatory prior to any confirmation of employment


Compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
